BRENDA C. McKEAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP


SWCW is proud to announce a single grant per year to support practicing reenactors and living historians in furthering their formal training in pursuit of certification by the National Association for Interpretation (NAI).   All submissions for the 2023 grant must be RECEIVED by April 3, 2023.

 How To Apply:
 
Scholarship winners will be selected based on the submission of an essay and meeting the following requirements:
 
Selection Criteria:

1.  Applicants must be 21 years of age or older.

2.  Must have been practicing reenactors and/or living historians, participating independently or in an established reenactor unit/living historian organization, for a minimum of three years.

3.  Provide a minimum of two written recommendations from recognized leaders in the reenactor/living history field (to include event sponsors) and, if a member of a reenactor unit/living history association, a written recommendation from the unit's/association's leader.

4.  Applicants must also submit a one to two-page essay in which they identify their goals in reenacting/living history, identify the role(s) which they play in reenacting/living history, identify any unit(s) with which they have participated, provide a history of their reenacting/living history participation and training, and identify their formal education.

5.  The essay must be accompanied by images taken of the applicant in their role(s) as reenactors/living historians.

6.  Recipients agree to permit SWCW to include outlines of their experiences in SWCW publications, The Calling Card and At Home and in the Field.

Deadline:  All submissions MUST be received by April 3, 2023
