Consortium, Underground Railroad, Network to Freedom – National Park Service.
She has presented numerous lectures including “The Lives of the General’s Wives” for the 3rd Annual Conference on Women and the Civil War,
“The Medical Facilities at Point Lookout During the Civil War," for the 1996 Civil War Medicine Conference, "Women in Maryland History,” "Point
Lookout and the Underground Rail Road" and "Letters from Behind the Lines" for various roundtables and community organizations.
Her publications have included "You Have No Idea What I Have Gone Through, Letters from Behind the Lines to Prisoners at Point Lookout,
Maryland," for the Journal of Women’s Civil War History; “Almira Hancock, wife of General Winfield Hancock," for the Hancock Society
Publication; and “Dedicated Nurses Sometimes Fought Each Other,” the Washington Times Newspaper. Susan has also appeared in a number of
television programs for the History Channel, the Learning Channel and independent films speaking on the subject of Hammond Hospital at Point
Lookout.
She has been a reenactor with the 20th Maine Co E. for more than 17 years and is a member of the Maine Camp Hospital Association, a group of
living historian reenacting the various roles of female nurses during the Civil War.
Susan Youhn received her B.A in U.S. History from the College of St. Francis, Joliet, IL. and her B.S. in Information Systems Management from
University College, University of Maryland. She lives in Hollywood, Maryland where she works as a computer systems analyst for Northrop
Grumman Corporation.
