The Ties of the Past: The Gettysburg Diaries of
Salome Myers Stewart, 1854-1922

Sarah Sites Thomas is a lifelong resident of Adams County, Pennsylvania, and the great-great-granddaughter of Salome Myers Stewart.
in history and a concentration in American cultures.

Research began on Salome Myers Stewart during her years at the Mount, as an outgrowth of a course on the Civil War. In addition, her
American cultures concentration focused heavily, almost exclusively, on 19th century American women, particularly their styles,
methods, and motivations for writing.

Her book on Sallie Myers, "The Ties of the Past:  The Gettysburg Diaries of Salome Myers Stewart, 1854-1922: was published in 1996.
She taught English and history in the Frederick County, Maryland, public schools for four years, and is currently the editor for Thomas
Publications in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. She lectures on Sallie whenever possible, in public schools, at round table discussions, and
for colleges and civic groups.
