DeAnne Blanton
   DeAnne Blanton holds a B.A. in American Studies from Sweet Briar College, and an M.A. in American History from Wake Forest
University. She is a military archivist at the National Archives in Washington, D. C., specializing in 19th century army records,
particularly those of the Civil War.  
   
   She was a founding member of the Conference on Women and the Civil War (SWCW).  She served as President of the SWCW from
2002 to 2004.  She has appeared in a number of television programs and film documentaries for PBS, the BBC, and the History Channel
speaking on the subject of Civil War women and women who served as soldiers in the 19th century.  

   Her first book, They Fought Like Demons: Women Soldiers of the American Civil War, co-written with Lauren Cook, was published in
2002 by Louisiana State University Press (hardback) and 2003 by Vintage (paperback).
